Guernsey Hedgehog Rescue Centre
HEDGEHOG STORIES: SPRITE
Sprite is a male hoglet that was brought into the centre on 7th August. A lady had found him wandering around her driveway in the middle of the day. Knowing that hedgehogs should not be out during the day and if they are it is a sign that they are unwell she brought Sprite into the centre.

Upon arrival at the centre Sprite was very shaky on his legs and he weighed only 188 grams. His faeces had the consistency of jelly and was full of blood. A sample showed he had masses of worms and urgently needed treatment. In addition to doing this we also gave him antibiotics (Baytril) and painkillers. We then left him to rest on a heat pad overnight. Sprite’s worm infestation was so bad we had to treat it again on 19th August.

We are pleased to report that Sprite is doing very well. He now weighs 342 grams and is almost fully recovered.

Once we are satisfied that Sprite is ready he will be released back into the area where he was found.
