Guernsey Hedgehog Rescue Centre
HEDGEHOG STORIES: POPPY
Poppy is a hoglet that was brought into the centre on 11th November 2005 (hence the name Poppy). He was dehydrated, very cold, lethargic and had a dreadful tick infestation. He weighed only 236 grams.

We put him straight on a heatpad and gave him honey for shock; we also started him on a course of antibiotics. During treatment we were concerned that he didn’t gain any weight so we also wormed him.

Poppy is recuperating well and now weighs 314 grams. He will remain at the centre over the winter and will then be released back into the wild in the spring.
