Mog is a female juvenile hedgehog that was brought into the centre on 16th July. A lady had seen Mog and another hedgehog in her garden during the day before. Unfortunately she did not know that if a hedgehog is out during the day it is in trouble and needs help. The following morning when Mog was still on her lawn the lady decided to bring her into the centre.
When Mog arrived at the centre she weighed only 270 grams. She was covered in ticks and was very lethargic. Also Mog’s spines were lying flat against her body, this is another sign that a hedgehog is unwell. We immediately set to work removing the ticks from Mog and starting her on a course on antibiotics.
We are pleased to report that Mog is now doing very well. She now weighs 329 grams and will soon be moved from the observation hutch in the treatment unit to an outside pen.
Mog will live in the outside pen until she in fully rehabilitated and prepared for life in the wild. When she is ready we will release her at one of our safe release sites.
