May was found in Les Effards on our Open Day, 1st May 2005. She weighed 430g and had a severe, very infected open wound running from her head to tail. She also had her right ear missing and part of a front paw. Her horrific injuries were probably the result of a garden strimmer.
May's wounds were cleaned and dressed and she was given antibiotics. Food and water were put in her cage, along with a heat pad under her bedding.
No one really expected her to survive. But an entry on her chart two days later "just amazing" said it all! May was determined not to give up and is doing really well. She is eating all her food and now weighs 885g. May's wounds have almost healed, but her spines will take time to grow so she will shortly be released into a walled garden. This will allow her progress to be monitored and ultimately assess if she can be returned into the wild. If May cannot be released she will continue to live in the garden.
