Guernsey Hedgehog Rescue Centre
HEDGEHOG STORIES: LANCASTER
Lancaster is a male hedgehog that was brought into the centre on 11th November 2005 (hence the name). He weighed only 598g (no where near the 700g required to survive hibernation). He was hypothermic and very poorly suffering from severe mange and a heavy parasite infestation.

We injected him with a drug called Ivamec and used Aloe Vera and Tea Tree cream everyday to treat his mange. Unfortunately he was slow to respond to this and we also found a heavy worm presence which we had to treat twice to clear.

Lancaster is now doing very well. His weight is now up to 784g. He will rest up with us until the spring when we will then release him back into the wild.
