In Britain as a whole, other mammals that survive the winter in this way are bats, dormice and prairie dogs.

HEDGEHOG STORIES: FAITH Faith was brought into the centre on 31st January 2006 after being found out in the middle of the road that morning. Like any hedgehog that is out during the day Faith was unwell. She was suffering from severe mange, had lots of fleas on her and weighed only 540 grams. We set to work applying flea powder to rid her of her unwanted guests, treated her mange and also wormed her (standard treatment for any hedgehog brought into the centre). Faith is now clear of mange and spends most of her time asleep! She is now waiting for a new home.
