Their vision is poor, and they cannot see in colour.

HEDGEHOG STORIES: DEREK Derek was found in St Saviours on 10th June 2005. He weighed 460g and had mange. He was also very dehydrated, weak and wobbly on his legs. Derek was given medication to kill the mange mites. Then he was given a bath in a special shampoo to help remove the crusty mange growth on his body. He was dried and put into his cage where food and water were available. To keep him warm a heat pad was placed under his bedding. After a few days Derek began to recover and now much of the crust has fallen away, his fur is growing back and he is happily eating all his food. His weight on 1st July was 610g. Shortly he will be able to be returned to the wild close to where he was found.
