Guernsey Hedgehog Rescue Centre
POST RELEASE MONITORING
Close up of an ear tag in a hedgehogs ear The Guernsey Hedgehog Rescue Centre places a tag on the right ear of every hedgehog that it releases. Each tag carries a number.

The tag is made of lightweight metal with a small pointed part that pierces the ear when the tag is applied. The hedgehogs do not seem to mind the process at all, nor does having the tag there bother them.

If you find a hedgehog with a tag, please let us know - whether the hedgehog is alive and well, or dead; but obviously especially if it needs our help.

This scheme will allow us to collect some information on how the hedgehogs that pass through the centre get on. This will be particularly interesting in those who have been treated for mange - does the condition recur, and if so how quickly, and are there any other factors that are important?
